If we don't count the Lennon one, and we probably shouldn't, as "British, the only ones of them to really make it over here at the time of release were the Kinks' "Father Christmas" and of course The Pogues. And both of those were slow burns.

I think it's actually down to the way in the 1960s Britain caught on to American culture at a bit of a time-lag, plus the breakup of the Beatles. I shall explain in a thread.
A mutual of ours who I'm not sure is around here any more once observed that there are 2 distinct holidays, with very little in common, yet observed concurrently, both called "Christmas."
