Engineer, but not that kind of engineer. Bikes, land use, energy and transit. Minneapolis.
Honestly lol that we're all pretending that Uber/Lyft, the services that by design require drivers to be looking at their phones half the time, are paragons of road safety and Waymos are going to be significantly worse.

Idk how it made it past the current park board, but it's very cool that they're turning the parking lot at my neighborhood park into a basketball court.

If you've installed a heat pump (or have electric baseboard heat or similar) in Xcel's territory in Minnesota, make sure you're on the residential space heating rate - it's more than 40% cheaper than the normal wintertime residential rate.

Back of the envelope math, but the park board could probably bring in $4-500k/year by metering the part of West River Parkway immediately north of Plymouth, where parking is 80%+ utilized all day every day between North Loop commuters, Mpls Bouldering Project climbers, and Pryes Brewing patrons.
Frey: "That gap can be solved in a different way other than the property tax increase, specifically fees. Parking fees at the park board have not been increased in, I believe, many years."

11/10 day to be told that my corporate laptop needs reimaging and I just need to kill two hours downtown in the early afternoon.

Lol, can we change the name of the park now? And build out that last quarter?

Man, what if the Parks and Recreation Board reserved the parkways for recreational uses instead of spending all their money maintaining streets for commuters to save (generously) fifteen seconds?

Idk which I'm madder about, that there's a guy in my neighborhood with a Trump 2024 sticker on his truck, or that he uses that truck for a daily commute of less than 1000'.

Park Board has once more done a bad thing, for stupid reasons, and I'm mad about it: "Pretend Concerns Over Fire Safety Doom Plan for Added Green Space at Uptown’s Mall Park"
Pretend Concerns Over Fire Safety Doom Plan for Added Green Space at Uptown's Mall Park » The Wedge Times-Picayune
One reason cities and park boards adopt long range plans: if the unexpected opportunity to rebuild a park comes up, you’re ready to go. A plan is already on the shelf waiting. When it comes to the…

Through the magic of Transit app, I just watched a northbound Rt 6 get from Oak Grove to 3rd St faster than my Rt 11 got from 11th St to 3rd St. Hennepin should obviously have bus lanes through downtown, but even without them, it works notably better for transit than Nicollet Mall does.

Apparently Betty Danger's will be replaced by "Betty Danger's, but with tacos". Can't imagine it'll last more than a year or two, but it's better than the space staying vacant until someone manages to figure out how to finance apartment buildings again.

Voter 119 in 1-3 at 5:30pm. Seems decent for a special election?

Fewer delays/detours for current Nicollet buses with bus lanes on Marquette, added bus lanes on Hennepin, better stop spacing on the 7th/8th BRT spine by moving the Nicollet stops to Marquette - the Local buses on Marquette proposal would improve practically every route that passes through DT Mpls.

Almost nothing is more my shit than being able to take a city bus to a mountain ski resort.

Looks a hell of a lot more pleasant to cross on foot, or live near than a Hiawatha-style surface expressway, even if the expressway had trees planted in the medians and signs saying "Boulevard".
The Rondo neighborhood is the center of St. Paul's Black community and lost more than 1,000 homes + businesses when I-94 was built. A land bridge over the interstate could address the historical harm caused by its construction.

And we’re one step closer to making that happen.

Remarkable how much better I feel about the bitter cold with a layer of snow on the ground. Below zero and brown, like last week, is just such a downer.

The service wires running to every building cost the same to maintain whether they're carrying 10 amps or 100. I only put one garbage bag in my bin per week, but I get charged the same as my neighbor who always fills theirs to the top, because we're both getting the same weekly collection service.
YOUR DAD is mildly distressed to learn Xcel wants to hike the basic service charge per meter from $6 to $11. Might not seem like a lot (we have 2 thanks to an inexplicable previous owner decision so it’s an ouch) but it penalizes energy-saving users by almost doubling a flat fee. Hope PUC rejects.

I don't think I've ever seen a craft beer sampler pack that doesn't include at least one pale ale. A Christmas miracle.

I am by no means surprised that the completely car-brained Minneapolis Parks Board didn't bother to get around to clearing the bike trails today, but I am disappointed.

Fun bike commute in today! The side streets that hadn't been plowed yet were challenging as always with skinny (studded) tires, but streets that had seen a plow like Marshall St NE were just fine. #mspcyclecast
