You’re welcome! It used to be a relatively low stakes way to participate in democracy. I always took it very seriously but it’s even more important now. My favorite part is when a new citizen gets to vote for the first time. It can be surprisingly emotional.

I don't know. I think in some ways it's worthwhile to point out that as bad as things are most of us have no idea how bad they could really be if we become an actual fascist state. It's actually a calling for us to do MORE right now while we can.

ESPECIALLY elections

I know some people think we should have a big national clearinghouse for elections, but federalism and local control of elections not only promotes civic virtue, it's a firewall against the central govt trying to fix an election.
I must admit that I am now one of those that realise the importance of state sovereignty over most things in daily life including elections.

What’s the point of legislative reforms when (1) the administration refuses to follow the law and (2) the Supreme Court‘s obedient majority consistently prevents lower courts from enforcing the law against the administration?

Seems masturbatory.
SCHUMER says Democrats are “united” behind three DHS reforms

1/ End roving patrols; tighten the rules on warrants and require ICE to coordinate with local authorities.

2/ Enforce accountability; a uniform code of conduct.

3/ Require masks off, body cameras on, agents carry ID.

Vote blue no matter who, unless you enjoy the authoritarianism. Is somehow AIPAC, who I'm not really that fond of, more evil than Trump. Do the Palestinians have a better chance of surviving Trump, who has big resort plans for Palestine with no local input. Was Trump better for Palestine than Biden?
Nearly half a million from aipac disqualifies him for me and most people I know that are on the left

Once again, reading through these comments, I am reminded that zero lessons were learned. I’m a former lifelong Republican who enthusiastically “voted blue no matter who.” Anyone who understands the danger we currently face, who is already demanding to fall in love with a candidate is dooming us.

I was fired at Dartmouth 30 years ago. I guess that was a good career move on my part.
The college at which I'm employed, which has signed a contract with the AI firm that stole books from 131 colleagues & me, paid a student to write an op-ed for the student paper promoting AI, guided the writing of it, and did not disclose this to the paper. www.thedartmouth.com/article/2026...
College approached and paid student to write op-ed in The Dartmouth
The Dartmouth ran the article on Nov. 17 without knowledge that the College had been involved.

Your immediate instinct should be, What can I do to make ICE toxic next week.

Your secondary instint should be, And how can I build on that the week after?
You are all ABSOLUTELY entitled to your correct opinion that Chuck Schumer's messaging sucks.

But don't waste your time whining while he bought you two weeks. Bc this is legislative success.
🚨 The Senate has agreed to a deal to vote on 5/6 full appropriations bills and replace the DHS funding measure with a 2-week stopgap bill, per multiple sources. That gives time to negotiate on the Dem demands for ICE and CBP restraints.

It’s the 1990s. I’m trying to explain many abuses we see at Ruby Ridge and Waco reflect entrenched practices of law enforcement.

It’s the 2000s. I’m trying to explain many abuses we see under the PATRIOT ACT reflect entrenched practices of American law enforcement.

It’s 2025. Guess the fuck what.

Q: Can you be specific about how many ICE and CBP agents are currently operating in the state?

HOMAN: 3,000. There's been some rotations. They've been in theater a long time. Day after day, can't eat in restaurants, people spin on you, blowing whistles at you. But my main focus now is draw down

To paraphrase Dave Barry, someone who is nice to you, but cruel to most of America, is not a nice person.

Narcissists tend to like superficially charming but awful people because the superficial charm satisfies their need for admiration.
Clarence Thomas is apparently one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, and famously knows the name of every single employee at the Supreme Court, down to the night janitors. His character is still bad! Not sure what “Alito is a kind in interpersonal situations” has to do with this.
