Open source software development is often like this. Definitely not always, but when no single company owns the project, developers from competing companies are usually quite cooperative with each other.

Dunno, but I switched from recommending Apple to avoid tech support calls to recommending Chromebooks to avoid tech support calls years ago.

It's not like it was a big mix either. The playlist repeated within the span of a couple hours. Probably labeled something like "inoffensive stuff you can play around old people when no one is listening too closely".

Google at least seems to understand that it's dangerous giving it that much access. In contrast, the vibe ops CEO whose product wiped his production database during a code freeze had a lot more hubris.

For several years, the only device in our house that my kid could access without parental controls was the TV in the living room. It also had parental controls, but I left them off so my kid could watch whatever crap on YouTube while we were in the room and could explain why it was crap. 1/
