We need to make clear that what we need to do is cut the link with these vampires and protect everyone else as much as possible while they crash and burn

on the other hand, younger kids are so... i dunno.. vulnerable. i don't know if i could handle it again tbh. sorry for all the crap, i wish it was different, for all of us

and they don't want you to

similar boat, but my kid is 18. sucks for sure
November 26, 2025 at 2:58 PM
i'm fine if people accuse me of "academic-ing" or whatever since its my job so I'm not exactly following you. and i'm the first to admit a lot of academics are jerks. so are a lot of writers. and have you ever hung out with gardeners? they put on a good show of being chill but... hoo boy. not chill

Does he though? He's talking about ML tools but using the phrase "AI" which he knows means LLMS etc. in this context. Maybe he is just being sloppy because its the internet or maybe I am misreading his posts? that's also 100% possible
November 26, 2025 at 2:13 PM
that's like saying "writers gotta write" or "gardeners gotta garden"

of course we have to academic. we are academics. what else would we do?
November 26, 2025 at 1:39 PM
Most of them don't, as far as I know, and at least some of them hate the "AI" hype-crap as well. I do think they get defensive about ML tools though, understandably. But that's just me, talking as an outsider and historian. I don't claim to speak for anyone
November 26, 2025 at 1:36 PM
I'm not even antagonistic to ML in science and tech spaces, it can do interesting and maybe even helpful things, but you'd think a guy like this would know how to distinguish between that and the broader "AI" hype that is destroying everything around us

One of these days I'm gonna write a book about the history of what the Oneida community called "complex marriage." They were... stern. Very stern.

Poly nerds are among the most earnest, ethically serious, wholesome people in the world. Or at least the United States. Have been for a long time

I have basically no idea who Will Stancil is or what his views are. Once I started seeing reactions to him everywhere I decided that I didn't want to be a part of it and just never engaged

I feel like that was one of my better decisions in life

In my opinion, it is not worth engaging with MAHA's CDC. I do not see any utility in submitting comments for the ACIP docket. There is ongoing litigation aimed at undoing the damage Kennedy has done to ACIP, but that litigation will, in no way, turn on the commenting docket for future ACIP meetings.

My other one is when my neighbor got a home version of pong for his atari. or maybe be had a commodore. anyway we all went over to his house. It was so fucking cool

I'd usually agree with this sentiment, but I don't think we want to nationalize the AI companies. They are just too harmful in too many ways. We just need to let them die and figure out how to survive the transition.

...including but not only the "straight" category. Same with other communities I've been active in that might make sense to fold into "queer," like the kink scene. So I dunno.

FWIW im also not a hooks scholar so 🤷
November 24, 2025 at 10:30 PM
Perhaps, yes. On the other hand, Q folks strike me as very much concerned with maintaining the stability of their internal narratives - their selves - and, at the same time, queer communities I've been a part of have always defined themselves (ourselves?) through distinction with others...
November 24, 2025 at 10:30 PM
I take this question seriously, but unless we are willing to extend the term to QAnon folks - and I'm not - then I dont think this works, whatever your view of other more sympathetic groups being included is
November 24, 2025 at 9:44 PM
Yeah no. I love hooks but that one is a miss. QAnon folks are not queer just by virtue of being in the cult. Lots of other examples. Het cis poly folks, for example.
