I’m gonna come out and say it: Vancouver is having a spectacular fall.
- Minimal rain
- But also nice CRISP temperatures, puts us in the season
- Summer not too hot, so trees kept their leaves, creating full cover for nice colours
- No elections or giant weather events to distract from joy
10/10

switching my brand from “ranting about hidden gems” to “ranting about people who claim the media doesn’t report on things that, in fact, have been reported on”
at the end of the day, it’s the same playbook: follow me because I have secret knowledge that others are hiding from you

when i become king of the internet it’ll be illegal to do videos where somebody “randomly” runs into someone while filming and that person is totally chill to have a totally unscripted conversation that they didn’t totally didn’t agree to ahead of time

there are mid teams that showcase the personalities of their players or do interesting things to create an engaging connection outside of the game itself
the Canucks are like "cheer for us because hockey, also watch us on an app that costs thirty bucks a month and sometimes doesn't work"

I don't think they have much optimism for the team right now. I don't blame them. The team is "mid" at best right now.

Between the buzz for the Goldeneyes, Whitecaps selling the upper bowl of BC Place, and the excitement for the Canadians this summer, the Canucks are just...not really doing much to create organic excitement for their brand

I have let my colleagues at Global BC know that November 18 is going to be my last day with the company and as a reporter at the Legislature. I have made the decision to take my passion and try something new and I am deeply grateful to all of the viewers and to my colleagues. #bcpoli

Here's my interview and podcast with Ken Sim on the 2026 Vancouver budget, a breakdown of the cuts and increases, and what he says to people who think he gives the VPD a blank cheque.

A bit of Vancouver 2026 Election news: Pete Fry is holding an "campaign mixer" event this Friday.
No announcement on running for mayor will be made, but it shows:
a) he's gone from "probably no" to "probably yes"
b) conversations between Greens/COPE/OneCity haven't amounted to any agreement yet

Here’s my humble pitch: we stop calling Vancouver’s housing market a “slowdown” or “slump”, implying that it was a great time before.
And instead, consider that after three years of similar numbers, acknowledge a new reality that everyone should adjust to.

A lot of time gets spent talking about election campaigns and analyzing why candidates connect with the public.
But it’s the grinding work of turning those promises into reality that actually impacts people, and is full of pitfalls.
anyways this is about uhhhhh let’s say port moody

Incredible map of all the roads. Shows how BC is so unique -- and how some important transportation links do not have a ton of redundancy. (On account of the mountains.)

“The optics are, oh, the police get everything they want.”
Here’s my story on the Vancouver Police Department asking for a $50 million increase to their 2026 budget while others city departments are facing challenges — and how at least one board member seemed aware of the conflict it would create.

Some breaking news: in a special Vancouver Police Board meeting only announced over the weekend, the police board has requested a $50 million increase to their budget for 2026.
This comes as other departments across the city are trying to cut staff to ensure a property tax freeze for next year.
