It will take some time (a few years), but this change will lead to hundreds of thousands of preventable diseases in the most vulnerable parts of the population, including deaths.

I assume we'll follow this up with the introduction of universal healthcare and paid family/sick/parental leave?

Northtown Books in Arcata is an absolutely incredible bookstore. Several years ago I met the folks who are running it now and their passion for running a welcoming local space was so infectious.

This fire is utterly awful.

If you can afford to kick in a few bucks to their fundraiser, please help.
Just spoke with the owner, Dante, & learned there is a fundraising page. If you are not in a position to give, please consider sharing this widely. Let's blow through that preliminary # -- immediate access to cash gives options the fire would seem at first to destroy.

For a period of a couple of years during the 2010s I was employed regularly by cattle to shoot the covers for the albums they had recorded. It was always wonderfully inspiring to witness the love, hard work and passion they had put into their music and I think that comes through in the photos.

This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...

Heartbreaking and horrifying to go to bed reading about the mass shooting at Brown University and wake up to read about the mass shooting at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach. Thinking of the victims, their loved ones, and those affected by the hate that drove these attacks.

I’m so tired of miscommunicating that I’m thinking a temporary vow of silence might be a good idea. Voluntary mutism to lower the chances of involuntary mutism. (Wishing you all, my handful of wonderful moots, an easier peace.)

This is profoundly irresponsible by AGSulzberger’s NYT, @by-cjewett.bsky.social +eds.

The normalization, “view-from-nowhere”, “born-yesterday”, stenography, “both-sides”, irresponsible headline are disgraceful.
THE story is the CDC&FDA are being destroyed by antiscience & Americans will die.

My confirmation bias/coffee addiction makes me retweet this in an instant. Hopefully it's also true.
For decades, researchers expressed reservations about the impact of coffee. But over the last 15 years, research is rejecting the old criticisms. Coffee strengthens the heart, extends life, prevents arrhythmias—and possibly also protects against dementia, diabetes, depression and Parkinson's.

This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited “words & concepts.” I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories I’m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.
