Which will have its own effect, but thats for later. The Millennials are like they are in part because they're the second wave (or in MANY cases "second marriage") kids Boomers themselves had later than their own parents did, whereas GenX was the smaller pool the non-college Boomers had in their 20s

Netflix does what it does well. It does it exceedingly well. They do it so well that others can't compete.

But it's the only one really doing that, and everyone else is getting out of the game.

Very likely, they don't want to end up like Blockbuster.

I think it's unfair to compare the Democratic Party to UK Labour under Starmer. I think it's absolutely true that the mainstream centrist press, exemplified by the NYT, wants the Democratic Party to be the UK Labour Party under Starmer, though.

The only thing I can think of that SORT OF makes sense ...*doesnt* make sense, because it sounds like "hopium" 😅 And it's that Netflix IS Netflix because they've been able to see around the corner on audience trends for about 20 years now; and maybe they're seeing something in their data churn...

So them buying Warner Brothers is likely they trying to diversify. It's them trying to find another revenue stream to bring in to potentially offset the downturn in revenue that is inevitably coming.

Because there is really is noplace left for Netflix to go *but* down.

Oscars aren't being dominated by Netflix exclusive films. The Emmy's aren't overwhelmed with actors from Netflix films.

Netflix properties come and go with little attention or care. The only ones that have managed to break containment are KPop Demon Hunters and Strangers Things.

With companies like Disney, Paramount, Apple and Amazon, they can at least diversify.

Disney and Paramount have movies, tv shows, tv networks, theme parks, to draw in revenue. Apple and Amazon have other aspects to their empire.

Netflix has none of these. It *just* does streaming.

The thing is, "recent" isn't part of this. This will take YEARS.

Remember when Disney bought Fox? That was "a thing that was in the works" for YEARS; formally announced in 2017, finalized in 2019.

The X-Men started actually showing up in the Disney-Marvel productions last year.

...that's about to RULE American (+global?) culture for the next 40 years or so is going to surge back to theaters, storefronts, parks, physical media etc by even (lets say) a 30% uptick the way Boomers flocked back to suburbia in the 80s?
I can see wanting that money.

I know I'm the broken record on this, but we're actually barreling toward the END of integenerational interregnum right now: The western world is about to enter the era of Millennial cultural dominance all at once and it's going to manifest in all kinds of unpredictable ways.

...and I'm still somewhat baffled at what Netflix is actually GETTING here.
I know what WB/Zaslav is getting: A "f--- you buddy" to the Ellisons, more money, etc.
But Netflix has historically not cared about IRL footprints, theatrical, pre-2000 catalog titles and they're "whatever" about IP...
