I also want to say, in response to the melodrama currently playing out at the highest levels of this industry—

Scores of us understand the importance of maintaining our professional integrity while we work. We don’t burn sources, or fuck them for that matter. Ethics means something.
I was interviewed for this piece—one thing that didn’t make it into it that I want to note: there’s been a lot of attention on the battle for press freedom here in LA—but as I’ve noted, this isn’t just a press rights fight, but a fight for the 1st amendment protections of all Angelenos
Law enforcement physically attacked 72 journalists covering immigration in LA this year—more than double the city’s 2020 BLM protest total, according to the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker.

1/ Today, ProPublica is running a piece I've been working on for a bit. It's about what happened with a devastating wave of bird flu earlier this year, as egg prices hit record highs.

And it's a story that illuminates the ways the U.S. is failing to control what could become the next pandemic. 🧵

Scrappy and underpaid, LA's independent reporters are risking everything to cover the ICE opposition

79-year-old Paul Bojerski was born to Polish parents in a WWII German refugee camp. His family legally emigrated to the U.S. when he was 5.

He’s been taken by ICE in Florida.

Sanford grandfather, born in refugee camp, nabbed by ICE after 70 years in U.S.
Paul Bojerski never gained official residency, but he checked in regularly with ICE for years. Then in July, at age 79, he was detained and sent to Alligator Alcatraz.
