There is a memorial in Glasgow too, the first and only I’ve ever seen.

What would it be like to actually be able to collectively acknowledge the horrors of the pandemic?

I would like to once again recommend that if you're looking to support a news outlet that covers Israel & Palestine, +972 Magazine is "an independent, online, nonprofit magazine run by a group of Palestinian & Israeli journalists."

Powerful, indispensable work, founded in 2010.

And maybe most people work by comparison rather than dreams of what’s possible. So compared to Trump, Biden looks pretty good (to some). Compared to 2020 the current pandemic seems better (to some). But that’s how we’ve normalized 1500 people a week dying.

So, when folks started holding in-person unmasked events I attempted the tiniest bit of activism asking ppl to think about de facto excluding anyone high risk and the most common response was that high risk people don't come. 🤪

Sending holiday cards to Congress & the White House to remind them people with Long Covid are having very #UnhappyHolidays. We need research funding, clean air standards, respirators in healthcare, public & medical education, worker protections, financial & social supports.

I wrote an op-ed for the NYT about what reporting on long COVID has meant to me—how I approached it, the impact it had, and how it taught me to be a better journalist.

This piece is sort of a manifesto for a journalism grounded in compassion, rigor, and care.

Opinion | Reporting on Long Covid Taught Me to Be a Better Journalist
Covering long Covid solidified my view that science is not the objective, neutral force that it is often caricatured to be.

This is unethical. Bosses are forcing employees to come into work sick with active COVID. This is why labor organizers need to incorporate public health into their demands.

Periodic reminder (based on my mentions):

Be that person who calls your elected's office. I can't tell you how often people DON'T call, especially if you're a Dem, and your elected is a Dem.

This sometimes turns into a situation where a few calls, especially in local gov, can move the needle.

don't care how trite it sounds, it's well-worn for a reason: life is so often awful to those who care the most. please go easy on yourselves; we need you, we need you, we need you.

If you’ve got writing or art, etc., that’s been published online, and you don’t want it to disappear forever, it’s probably a good idea to keep it in your own files and not count on anyone to save it for you. So, download webpages as PDFs, etc. At least that’s what I’m going to do.

"Nobody's masking anymore" is a lie & a right-wing talking point. Don't repeat this lie. Maybe you were the only masked person at the store, and it does feel bad when that happens. But millions of people around the world are still masking. People *are* wearing masks. We are being hidden & erased.
