Melissa isn’t a direct threat to the U.S. as steering currents will keep it away from the U.S. East Coast. But it will amplify rip current risks and cause dangerous beach surf along much of the East Coast late week

Midweek, Melissa is likely to make landfall in eastern Cuba as a major hurricane (20”+ of rainfall possible in eastern Cuba), then will weaken a bit post-land-interaction. It’ll move much quicker by late week, exiting Turks and Caicos and the southern Bahamas then approaching Bermuda by Friday.

Melissa is forecast to make landfall in Jamaica early Tuesday. This is going to be a devastating situation for Jamaica. Forecasts show isolated amounts of 40”+ of rainfall are possible in eastern Jamaica... In parts of Haiti, over a foot of rainfall is possible from Melissa over the next few days.
