Writing a cozy fantasy novel with a climate twist
Coffee is great, dogs are even better
I made a tiny decision seeming decision when I started my contemporary fantasy to explain the source of magic. Where does it come from? Let me SHOUT, next time, there will just BE magic in the world. Period. Writing a novel - forget turtles - it's Jenga all the way down.

I refuse to let the forces of evil take my mental health.
I refuse to allow the hatred and anger propagated by men with small dicks into my heart.
I refuse the despair, anger, and why bother energy.
I resist and protest LOUDLY as part of a MASSIVE community of good people.
We are not alone.

I so often read things that tell me I’m invisible at this age. And that by being invisible, I’m freed. But that idea still centers the male gaze.

I’m free because I choose to be, not because someone doesn’t see me anymore.

I saw The Last Show Girl last night. Yes, it's an indictment of capitalism & what it does to women but Pamela Anderson's character is not a victim. She loves what she does. But does she love it because she was trained to love the male gaze as a beautiful woman? Or? Any thoughts?

Loved this novel -- fantastic world building, wonderful mystery deftly handled, neurodivergent main characters - loved Ana Dolabra - and often funny. Can't wait for next book in the series.

Chills and sick to my stomach at the same time.
Some folks are pretty good seeing things coming.

Reading pieces here and there about literature trends for 2025, and everybody I’ve read has missed the most obvious one.

WOMEN’S RAGE.

I predict we’ll see many, many books about women who have HAD IT.

Might I be writing one of those books?

Yes, and I am not alone.

What do you eat for lunch? I have breakfast down and my husband is a fantastic cook who makes a wonderful healthy dinner -- I know, I married well! -- but lunch always baffles me. Suggestions?

I've been stuck on my big finale scenes in my novel for a week now. I'm doing good not worrying but I'm also worrying, if that makes any sense. I keep muttering, "it's magic, you can do anything!"

It's been hard around my house since the election. I thought I'd re-read this note from my daughter that she wrote me the week after. If you're struggling today for any reason, you aren't alone.

Monthly reminder: Many people have a book in them, but it takes a special kind of freak to leave the Land of Laziness, cross the Plains of Procrastination and Insecurity Mountain, find the Blade of No One Made You Do This, and use it to cut your chest open and yank that book out.

doorstop book recommendations -- this thread is nothing but trouble ahead for me... delightful trouble! Thanks Anne!
The most interesting and difficult question: which thick novel should I read on my upcoming trip to Japan? (I will be reading books about Japan, but I want one absorbing social novel as well).
