NYPD resolved 26.8% of Illegal Parking reports with a disposition of "summons issued" in Oct 2025, up from 19.9% in Oct 2024🧵
*technically* DOT is not in violation of the law (they have 38 days left), but DOT is really tardy in posting how many Speed Camera + Red Light Camera violations were rejected in Q3 2025.

In the mean time, I'll keep refreshing to see when they post it.

re-posting cool data viz
Undoubtedly. Pixar, and the others. Look at my assessment density map. Emeryville sticks out for how many huge, valuable parcels they have.

This block on West 41st by the Michael J Quill Bus Depot used to be full of illegal parking (No Standing Anytime)

On October 8th someone in NYPD Traffic woke up and started writing tickets. 40 tickets for "Fraudulent Use Parking Permit" since. Now that block is empty.

DOT continues to aggressively re-paint already green bike lanes. Spotted signs of fridays painting on 54th and 55th st between 11th and 12th Ave.

Started the day yesterday giving my wife a ride home after coffee - ended it 4 trips later treating myself to ice cream while waiting to pick up a kid. (Cup holder doubles well as an ice cream holder)

I absolutely love biking in NYC for transportation.

Frustrating to find 10th Ave bike lane blocked like this today.

If you know the area you know this is chronic. “Issued a summons” today . 311-25259095

I also lost a five minute argument with a parking enforcement agent. I blocked from here, trying to motivate action. He refused to do anything that would upset hotel staff who we implied paid off the city

Today @nyc.streetsblog.org gave NYPD Commissioner Tisch an "A" grade for improvements on responding to illegal parking.

The % of "summons issued" for illegal parking reports has steadily gone up during her watch

Daylighting.

This Coca Cola truck is parked illegally in the daylighting at this intersection. Had I been 2 seconds ahead this cab driver making a blind turn without yielding would have killed me.

That’s some serious wind
Hurricane Melissa produced the fastest hurricane winds to be recorded by a dropsonde, verified by reviewing data at NSF NCAR! Hurricane Melissa’s 252 mph wind gust surpassed the previous record from Typhoon Megi over the Western Pacific in 2010, where a dropsonde measured wind gusts of 248 mph.

Let's check in on this SAME EXACT VEHICLE since I just saw it double parked.

Vehicle now has ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY SPEED CAMERA TICKETS.

No question about it there are zero spots you should be able to accelerate this quick in NYC cc @agounardes.bsky.social
China is bringing the hammer down on hyper-fast EVs, setting a minimum 5 seconds for accelerating from 0 to 100 KMH (62 MPH).

For context, the Rivian R1S hits 60 MPH in 2.6 seconds, as does the Tesla Cybertruck in "Beast Mode." (H/t @reillybrennan.com)
China mulls limiting cars' default performance as EV crashes frequently occur
China plans to require passenger vehicles to default to a state where acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes less than five seconds upon each startup.

License plate “Q7” with tape over the state to avoid camera tickets, and illegal tint. Also, in the bike lane.

Vehicle occupied. We will see if the 20th pct responds quick enough or if they still think I’m filing frivolous complaints. 311-25185388

A cop looked up my 311 reports recently and tried to imply I’m making frivolous complaints with “it’s not normal to have 1,600 311 reports”

I didn’t miss a beat “I agree with you!, I would also love more people to engage with reporting illegal parking.”

Weird request: anybody in Minneapolis want to take a field trip and look at a stairway for me? 630 Cedar Ave. S. had a big fire, and has scissor stairs. The state report about the fire implies that the stairways were open to one another (no wall separating them) – I'd like to confirm that was true.

NYC 311 system is moving to use NYC.ID but this one pothole form is still stuck in 1997.

@vinbarone.bsky.social when will this get fully moved into 311?
