Yesssss! The swifts are back. Not seen them yet but just heard that familiar scream whizzing past the house as I'm sat working.

Just starting to read the wonderful @katebradbury.bsky.social book www.bloomsbury.com/uk/one-garde... I've been saving it up as an Easter reading treat. The writing is beautiful, the message so urgent, I'm sure there will be tears soon.

Does anyone else use birdsong as their alarm call to help them learn? The birds are so loud outside in the mornings now that it's taking me ages to realise my alarm is going off 😃

A grin on my face for the last 50m of my morning walk - the chiffchaffs opposite the house are back. Spring has officially begun!

Atmospheric freezing walk today. Ducks skidding on the canal, thrushes and blackbirds hungrily searching for food.

Our 3rd year of making this amazing @nigella.bsky.social cake, it's become a new tradition. We have it instead of Xmas pud as it tastes very similar. Super easy to make too!
If you haven’t made a fruitcake yet, don’t panic! This Chocolate Fruitcake doesn’t need to mature, and is relaxingly easy to make. The chocolate bit is in fact cocoa, which provides a hint of bitterness that offsets the intense sweetness of the dried fruit beautifully www.nigella.com/recipes/choc...

This is the perfect cut-and-come again cake for any time of the year. It lasts for a fortnight, but has the squidgy fabulousness of something so much less serviceable-sounding. I know there are a lot ...

It's hard not to feel hopeless. The A38 has always been a busy road, but lined with mature trees, hedges and daffodils in the spring. Protection for wildlife, nesting habitat for birds and protection from pollution for humans, being ripped up.

Day 10 of #ArtAdventCalendar.

Here’s a pastel painting I created a few years ago called ‘Winter Woodcock’. I love watching Woodcock emerging to feed at dusk in the winter. They are one of my favourite birds in the world. ❄️

First visit to Slimbridge yesterday. First time seeing a marsh harrier and goldeneye ducks....but my favourite bit - the colours on this rook.
