US opposition leaders should be calling for or ready to call for an OSCE/ODIHR election monitoring mission for the mid-terms.

Trump will no doubt refuse, but the US is an OSCE member, and the refusal is a signal in itself internationally and at home.

Make him explain the refusal.

Staff at a Twin Cities yarn store put together a pattern for a red knit “Melt the ICE” hat inspired by the Norwegian resistance.

They thought they would attract 10 people to a weekly knit-along.

They’ve sold 70,000 copies, raising more than $250k for immigrant aid groups.

Insane! At all levels, really. First of all, they have nothing to do outside of the U.S. Second, they are among the worst-trained of the dozens of security and law enforcement services the U.S. has.

What this shows, however, is that the Trump Administration sees ICE as its personal military.

In the early 1930s the SA was roughing people up, creating chaos in neighborhoods, seeking to terrorize with the occasional killing. By the late 1930s it had been supplanted by the SS, which was much better trained.
Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.

In addition to teaching students how U.S. government and politics works, it's also worth teaching them how other systems operate, e.g., parliamentary systems, proportional representation, multi-party systems, etc.

Great reporting by @danagoldstein.bsky.social about disturbing trends in social studies education. As a social studies educator, I am deeply concerned about the future of my profession in the current political climate.
A few months ago, I started to hear from history teachers that the curriculum materials they’d used for years were being pulled from the market, or they were not being allowed to use them because of political pressures. My investigation of this trend published today: www.nytimes.com/2025/10/27/u...
