Looks like we're at the 'negative press begins' before the eventual slide into the Gartner Hype Cycle's 'trough of disillusionment'.

I love character actors and prolific actors, and Udo Kier was both.

More than 200 films. Worked with the likes of Lars von Trier, Gus Van Sant, Werner Herzog, etc. He'd do an Ace Ventura or Armageddon.

Or he'd do Korn and Eve music videos, Red Alert 2, and appear in Madonna's book titled 'Sex'.

Me, thinking to myself, literally yesterday morning: "It's been nice and I'm shocked I've not gotten sick so far this season."

Me this morning: "Goddamnit..."

Just got back from seeing Frankenstein in 35mm and it unfortunately convinced me not to do a 35mm screening again. The whole thing was just sort of blurry (might have been a bad projectionist).

Which sucks, because it really impacted the ability to see all of del Toro's art direction.

Watched the first episode of Pluribus, and I'm fairly certain one of the characters had a pack of Morely cigarettes.

I would like to propose a spinoff of Murphy's Law called Lamb's Law.

"Anything that could be easy won't be easy".

In today's case I went to replace a bolt that was leaking in my toilet's water tank, and eventually had to result to drilling it out with titanium bits.

Opting out of this also disables spellcheck, which is peak enshittification.

Can't wait for Microsoft to inevitably follow Google's lead and remove spell check across Office365 unless you continue to leave Copilot enabled.
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Hit Man (2023) was a fun surprise. Glen Powell was great, and definitely has the Brad Pitt "character actor trapped in a leading man's body" thing going on.

I found Cobb (1994) to be very much ahead of its time. Tommy Lee Jones gives a hell of a performance.

The problem with being a morning person is that your circadian rhythm doesn't care that you got in from your friend's birthday bash near midnight, and it will wake you up at 6am regardless.

Popped into a craft show on the weekend, and someone was selling hot water bottles with handmade covers.

So now I'm living my senior citizen dream of lying in bed with a book and a tartan hot water bottle as the temperature continues to plummet outside.

Reading a book that came out 5 months before I was born.

The current chapter has a man commenting on "those new digital thermometers" and another smoking next to a patient in recovery.

I suddenly feel very very old.

My addiction to Taskmaster cannot be satiated and now I'm part way through season 1 of Taskmaster New Zealand.

As someone who sat through and was irked by the "millennials are so different!" thing in my 20's, we seem to now be recycling those exact talking points for Gen Z.

Gen Z is apparently reshaping collaborative and empathetic leadership by embracing collaboration and empathy.

Followed up the race yesterday with my once-a-month curling group. 🥌

I am very very tired today.

Ran my 5K this morning and the weather thankfully held out.

Somehow came third in my gender/age group 😅

Running the 5K tomorrow morning.

It's going to feel like -3 and is calling for wet flurries.
Softball teammate posted an invite to a November 5km run in a group chat.

The sick part of my brain is now trying to convince me that going from "topping out at 200m" to "running 5000m just two months shy of 38 years old with no prior training" is doable.

My softball teams from the previous two seasons have become a pseudo-cult, and we merged out group chats back in September.

We just group-bought 25 tickets for when the Sceptres and Torrent visit #HamOnt in January.

Really curious about the move away from Lighthouse (Valve's previous tracking system which used external base stations) and to a headset-based camera system.

Lighthouse tracking was great as it was super accurate and worked with poor lighting.

But setting it up every time was a massive pain.

Just walked over to the #HamOmt Farmer's Market.

Passed a guy out front who was carving a piece of wood into a dagger (?) as he walked.

Anyway, can't wait for the stadium next door to open this month.

The Hamilton Antique Mall (it's very large four-floor building of 200+ antique booths, see link) has a TurboGrafx-16 w/ Keith Courage in Alpha Zones.

And my family had these when I was a kid (dad won it in a radio contest).

And the thing's been there for months.

Sometimes I think I've done ok for myself.

Other times I find out a friend from university, who I directed in a play once a time, testified at the House Standing Committee on Health last week.
