Yes, exactly! Knowing that it's always just on the other side of a bulkhead or the skin of the craft, too - it's so easy to forget, but then all the more striking when it's remembered, in my opinion.

As it is, mom thought it was silly and teased me about it, and Dad hardly registered it as a thing at all. He only asked "why?" and when I replied "I'm going to combine them together into a beautiful stained-glass-type mural" he nodded and went about his business.

The open empty unknown - space, ocean, whatever expanse you wish - is always very effective for tension when used well…and you're using it well, here! It's understated, but that just lets it simmer in behind our thoughts without hardly a notice…
