Interested in native Australian plants and all the creatures that live amongst them. But Winnie the cat is not allowed near any of them. Located near Ballarat in Victoria, Australia.

Yesterday afternoon before everything happened in the world I went past the imperial hairstreak colony again. Despite being bitten by a few diligent guard ants it was just as amazing. Watch this video to see the full beauty of these butterflies, including the electric blue upperwings:

While taxonomically "common", I prefer "Splendid" Bronzewing, because that splash of colour is definitely anything but common.

'This one is going to hurt. I dove the Glenelg Dredge today, first time since the bloom. I had heard it was bad, but it was worse.
The emptiness in a place once so amazingly full of life is simply devastating. 🤯😭 Sorry, but I share what I see!'

TRILOBITE BEETLES!!! 😍🌿
Some of the coolest bugs in Asia’s rainforests are these female Lycid Beetles, that look like they’re from prehistoric ages!😱🦕

They retain their larval form as adults and feed on decaying matter in the leaf litter of the forest! 🍂
I get goosebumps every time I see them! 😁

This onion-orchid, Microtis species (probably M. unifolia), popped up in my vege garden near the peas and beans. What a wonderful surprise. Don't know how it got there, maybe seed was blown in with strong winds? 🌱

Seeing five tawnies in a tree as you walk through your gate after a long day at work is a bloody lovely antidote to everything that’s a bit shit in the world, I’ll tell you that for free.

#Daucus glochidiatus, aka Australian carrot! This is a plant in the family #Apiaceae and can be anywhere from 3-60cm tall. Its flowers are impossibly tiny, only about 1.5mm in diameter with minute purple petals (which made it difficult to photograph, even with a microscope!).
