Last week we shared the green gumblossom of Eucalyptus platypus—but is it named after the Platypus? Not quite! Both names come from Greek: platy = flat, pus = foot. The tree has flat flower stalks; the animal, flat feet. Same roots, different species! #LoveAGum 📸: Dean Nicolle

Two Fuchsia Gums often confused: Eucalyptus dolichorhyncha & E. forrestiana. 🌺 Look to the bud cap (operculum): dolichorhyncha has a long, pointed “nose” (from Greek dolicho = long, rhynchos = nose); forrestiana has a rounded dome. #LoveAGum #eucalyptID
