Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” Bans States and Local Governments From Regulating Ai No state laws allowed against facial recognition, AI surveillance, or data misuse. States can’t protect you from algorithmic discrimination in healthcare, workplace issues, enforce safety standards, data collection limits, or rules about how that AI operates on public roads. No Guardrails. No Transparency. No Accountability. States can’t demand transparency in crash data. States can’t block features they deem unsafe. We can put a power plant with 35 methane gas turbines without proper emission controls, releasing pollutants like nitrogen oxides into your community without notification, with no hearings, no environmental review, with no accountability. The majority of people benefit from school vouchers are the wealthy.

This majority of children who will suffer is the middle class as their schools are depleted of resources.

The poor will just get poorer.

Kids that do move from public school to a private school do worse in math and science.

Terrible news today:

This year, one-third of coral cover has been destroyed in two northern sections of the Great Barrier reef due to anthropogenic heating.

Results for the southern sections (which were even hotter) have not been officially released.

Came across this little beauty, amethyst deceiver, while hiking last week in the mid Willamette Valley in Oregon.
A mushroom called Amethyst Deceiver, purple in color, on a forest floor covered with moss, leaves, and pine needles.

A Pearl-spotted Owlet on the wing. This image is one of a burst I managed to get of this bird in flight in Akagera National Park. This species is one of a few diurnal owl species, which makes it a lot easier to photograph than others!

A British pensioner whose bland sandwiches gained him unexpected fame in China has died. Keith Brown, a retired engineer known on Chinese social media as "Old Dry Keith", became a hit when his Chinese wife Zhang Jian began to post videos of him assembling the ham and cheese sandwiches he liked to eat. Chinese observers were grimly fascinated by his dry, boring sandwiches, and his gentle, stoic manner - and he built up a cult following. "We go from questioning the dry old man, to understanding the dry old man, to becoming the dry old man," observed one cultural commentator. "The old man is us, and his dry lunch is our dry life."
