For once I'd like to see a sci-fi show that's like, "Yeah, this alternate reality version of one of our characters actually can stay here, and we'll just deal with the social ramifications of that in subsequent episodes."

"But what does that say about my job if a machine that's wrong 75% of the time can do for me and no one notices?"

Hi, you are participating in the most inefficient and needlessly cruel version of UBI possible.
this is similar to what I've come to think of as the "reverse turing test"

when people find synthetic text is "good enough" to complete a task (homework, business report, email) it doesn't mean the machine is smart. it means they were asked to produce something that didn't matter

it's diagnostic
So similarly, when we see people who prefer ChatGPT or a similar synthetic text extruding machine as a source of medical information, that means those are people who are under-served in the current system.

Socialism is what they called public power.

Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

If you have no skill or desire for hard work, you can make up the difference with luck, but there is no amount of hard work that can make up for just never getting a chance
Hard work is often (not always) necessary, but not sufficient. One mostly needs luck. Too many lucky people think they got where they are because of hard work, and look at less fortunate people wrongly assuming they lacked effort, and worse, derive from this a false sense of moral superiority.

new from @kylietcheung.bsky.social in @teenvogue.com: recently, men have impersonated plainclothes ICE agents to assault women—only possible, she argues, because state agents commit violence with impunity.

"To be clear, men wouldn’t be posing as ICE agents and assaulting women if ICE didn’t exist."
How ICE Raids Are Making It Easier for Civilian Men to Assault Immigrant Women
"This phenomenon is only possible because of the outsized power that state agents have always had to abuse and control women and victims' bodies," argues Kylie Cheung.
