I'm way deep into nothing special, riding the crest of a wave breaking just west of Hollywood. Drifter, occasional grifter, tea drinker, Jack Kerouac fan making his way west on the open road.

Reconstructing Erna
For one brilliant artist and her Jewish family in 1930s Vienna, self-remaking was a necessity of survival. But there were some harms from which their self-reconstructions could not protect them.

The execution of Alex Pretti is playing so badly because you can look at his actions and life story - his last act was helping, boy scout, athlete, health care worker to veterans - and compare those to the men who killed him and know which you would want to be your son, brother, father, uncle.

We are community or we are less. We are engines of kindness and connectivity or we are less. When decency is framed as a radical position we must remain who we are. Our resistance is also in refusing to be less openhearted and filled with compassion.

Trump is tearing at the foundations of NATO, an 80-year security alliance and replacing it with threats instead of a coherent strategy. He is shredding decades‑old commitments and offering no credible new framework for collective security in their place. Who wants to be our allies now?

Being of Service

“Functional societies need algorithms which reward us for being of service to those who need it most. Instead we have algorithms which reward us for being of service to those who need it least.”

Senate Democrats absolutely have to shut the govt down to stop this ICE insanity in the Twin Cities. This is not sustainable & cannot be normalized. Any Democratic vote to provide money to the thugs who are brutalizing this community is a grave betrayal to the people here. Accountability can't wait.

And knowing when to pause to refill so we can go back to doing it more.

If we continue to go to work everyday & just do our job, & where we work is owned & used to help support a dictator, then isn’t going to work under an authoritarian regime compliance?
Isn't the best thing for us to do is to truly stop supporting this regime is to stop society until this is fixed.

For those who have forgotten the past 40 years:

Tax cuts for the rich
...don’t trickle down

Boosting military spending
...doesn’t bring peace

Slashing regulations
...doesn’t create jobs

Folks, we’ve seen this all before.
