what, uh, are they arresting people for?

@nytimes.com had to report the story because their reporters couldn’t go to Minneapolis diners to interview Trump supporters. They were all closed.
The Minnesota strike has made it to the top story on NYT. I am not a knee jerk NYT hater, but imo this is noteworthy given the paper’s relative lack of interest in other recent anti-Trump protest activity

Not headline news. No real fuss by Democratic leaders. No calls to censure. No pushback. No questions asked of GOP leadership by the press.

Just totally accepted anti-Muslim bigotry across the board.

This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.

1 unpopular thing + 1 unpopular thing = ?🤔
There's no shortage of problems with this, but I'm especially struck by the domestic political implications:

Trump wants to do one unpopular thing (impose tariffs that are likely to push consumer prices higher), in pursuit of a different unpopular thing (acquiring Greenland).
BREAKING: Trump says eight European countries will be charged a 10% tariff for opposing U.S. control of Greenland.

Such an important article. Auto-renewed enrollees may not be willing or able to pay the (much higher) 2026 premiums. We won't have early 2026 effectuation numbers until this summer. And with 90-day grace periods, policies won't terminate until April. Drop offs are coming, but it will take time.

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Donald Trump referred to the FBI as the “Gestapo” repeatedly a few years ago. Did his rhetoric also lead to violence?

Follow-up question: If Trump compared federal agents to the “Gestapo,” why is it beyond the pale for others to do the same thing now?

Do they not teach contracts at University of Arkansas Law School?
For better or worse, public law schools have to account for state politics when making decisions about who to hire as their next dean.

But hiring someone and *then* rescinding the offer is something else altogether, and ought to be a huge black eye for the University of Arkansas.
The University of Arkansas's law school just withdrew the appointment of its new dean six days after hiring her because conservative politicians complained that she filed an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in support of transgender students
