📣We're delighted to announce that tickets are now on sale for our 2025 Conference! This year, the annual event takes us to the Ebrington Hotel in the old walled city of Derry~Londonderry in Northern Ireland where we’ll be exploring the theme, ‘Water Connections: from Source to Sea’ bit.ly/4kuPvST
It's #InsectWeek, so let's hear it for all our bog-loving species. Peatlands support very specialised biodiversity, and restoring our peatlands helps provide a brighter future for species such as Large Heath butterflies bit.ly/4loL0sD

Any help from the #PeatSky hive mind?
Question for the #peatlands community, and carbon dating community as well. When looking at dating basal peat samples are most people looking at the humic fraction or the humin fraction? Or both? Read around it and have just ended up confusing myself. Thanks in advance!

Incredible images from @fdraper.bsky.social's drone flying. Here's a lovely view of Sphagnum recolonising the recently rewetted "Mini Moss" raised bog site.

Happy #WildWednesday!

We often use these photos from Gaick we took during the @iucn-uk-peat.bsky.social conference to show #peatland restoration. Ending peat sales would mean the #nature and #climate benefits afforded by these efforts wouldn't be undermined by extraction elsewhere.

🌿 Peatlands are among the most powerful natural allies in tackling the global climate, biodiversity, and water crises. Parties to the Convention on Wetlands have long recognized their importance.

While a ban on using #Peat in horticulture has not yet been implemented, consumers have the choice to use a wide range of #PeatFree media for growing. Check out the snaps from the IUCN UK PP team of their plants, trees, herbs and vegetables living their best peat-free lives. #BankHoliday #PeatFree

Climate change is expected to increase wildfire devastation. It was good to see that recent peatland restoration by rewetting, at Llyn Gorast, Tywi, proved to be a firebreak.
