There are so many things I want to say, but above all: thank you.

Thank you for showing up. For canvassing all over the region and attending town halls. For marching with us. For calling and emailing your legislators in droves, and phone banking at a last minute’s notice.

We did this together. 🥹💙🚍

Just after saying he'll veto any budget that makes cuts to the cops, who have repeatedly overspent the budget and cost the city over 1.5 billion in abuse lawsuits since 2000 (and twice the library budget this year alone).
Johnson tries to reframe the debate over the budget after suffering a very public defeat at the hands of the Finance Committee:

"It's working people or its the ultra rich. That's it."

Folks like myself have been plenty critical of this administration, just like I’m critical of alders who when push comes to shove run the other direction.

Organizing takes many different forms. Sometimes it’s loud, sometimes it’s unseen.

But votes are always on the record.
I love people talking progressive who were crickets when this administration was proposing encampments on toxic land, gardaworld, and evicting undocumented people from shelter during the winter.

This is the same man who joined the chorus of moderates worried about “liability” of plowing sidewalks, alluded to police misconduct as a validator of that concern, suggested that HE get the money from the program to buy his own plow instead — and then didn’t vote.

With “socialists” like these.
Now now, we aren’t supposed to think, question, or argue because the “progressive” Mayor said it.

Just keep saying anyone who is against this budget doesn’t want to tax the rich and isn’t progressive.

At least that’s what some want to have folks believe, right?
So we won't plow our sidewalks cause of "liability concerns" but we'll keep letting the police wreak havoc on our city, our people, our civil liberties, and our finances??

Make it make sense. @andrefor40th.bsky.social

NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Tax the rich. Greg Ryan in @bloomberg.com:
Millionaire Tax That Inspired Mamdani Fuels $5.7 Billion Haul in Massachusetts

Despite the sustained & significant citywide drop in crime, the decline has stalled in 2 police districts where federal agents have carried out some of the most aggressive raids and tear gassed residents, according to police data.
Federal agents who have carried out a series of increasingly aggressive raids in Chicago as part of President Trump’s effort to deport undocumented immigrants deserve no credit for the continuing drop in violent crime across Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson and Gov. JB Pritzker said. @wttw.bsky.social
Trump Deserves No Credit for Continued Drop in Crime in Chicago: Johnson, Pritzker
Crime in Chicago has been dropping significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic began to wane in 2022, a trend that accelerated after Mayor Brandon Johnson took office in May 2023 and has continued since...

Last night there were people posting about being stuck in traffic at the lakefront.

By the time I walked 20 minutes back to the bus, got all the way home, showered and got in bed…..they were still stuck in traffic, having only moved a couple hundred feet.

Stop driving to the lakefront.

Great to see the show off support, but it's worth reminding folks that these are not the only 6 protestors that have been indicted by the federal government for protesting at Broadview, they're just the most famous.
Good afternoon from Chicago's Federal Plaza. A rally is underway now in support of the "Broadview Six," who face arraignment in about 45 minutes on federal conspiracy and impeding charges, stemming from their participation in a Sept. 26 protest in front of the Broadview, IL ICE facility.

No service cuts, no layoffs and no fare increases: CTA board approves rosy-looking 2026 budget
No service cuts, no layoffs and no fare increases: CTA board approves rosy-looking 2026 budget
An influx of about $142 million in revenue derived from the state’s mass transit funding bill will prevent any cuts and allow for some modest improvements at the agency.

I don’t really have a strong opinion on the head tax, but I do think it’s important to be clear that a corporate head tax is not at all the same thing as a tax on billionaires.
Pritzker is a billionaire. Of course he would be against a tax on billionaires.

- Even with him speaking out against ICE, what effect is HE having on keeping the local/state police on the side of protesters?

Billionaires are the extreme minority. Who votes? People. And there are far more of us.
Since people are talking about Gov. JB Pritzker today…

the fellow Democrat is pushing back on the corporate head tax as well.

Pritzker had stated that the head tax penalizes more employment and makes it hard to attract companies to the city.

I do very much stand by this, but boy the video paints a very different picture.

The bit about ISP was actually just a blip at the end and the entire encounter was *actually* about the corporate head tax.
Apparently ISP cracking your skull with a baton is “protecting” you.
“This is my ward! This is my ward!” Rodriguez (22nd) chirps back as Sigcho-Lopez (25th) grills Gov., saying, “the State Police are arresting protesters.”

“They’re protecting our protesters,” Gov. JB Pritzker responds.

The sidewalks are legitimately dangerous tonight because we don’t plow, and have let the sludge turn to rock hard ice.
See an unplowed sidewalk today? We want to see it!

Be sure to post and use the tag #PlowTheSidewalks — oh and be sure to tag your alderperson too, letting them know you still want to see a pilot program!
November 11, 2025 at 12:53 AM
There’s truly so much to unpack from what went down with PTS last month and there has not been any time to go over it with folks, but I promise you this energy is actually warranted and the Mayor and some progs deserve the heat too lol
Fuck every alder who voted against plowing the sidewalks in chicago. I hope you don't slip and fall and break some bones.

Special fuck you to the alder who did some terrible "back of the napkin" math. Stop ruining our lives!!!!

Dick Durbin needs to not just resign from leadership, he needs to resign from office.
Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

The real tea is that there is nothing stopping Brandon Johnson from implementing #PlowTheSidewalks other than himself.

We did not need to pass an ordinance today for the city to be allowed to do it. We just needed to pass one for him to agree to do it.

I've said it before, and I will say it again.

We need courageous leaders that put working families at the center of all they do.

8 democrats caving to empty promises is an indefensible leadership failure

For the sake of our country, Schumer needs to resign.
November 10, 2025 at 5:52 PM
They think you’re fucking stupid.
As this vote moves to the House, I stand with Democratic leadership as they refuse to rubber stamp the full-scale Republican assault on Americans’ health care and I am proud of the majority of Senate Democrats who opposed this vote.

Not a single one of the eight up for reelection this coming cycle. 🤔
