I don't drink and I don't know everything.

There are those who call me Tim
All ready to celebrate the new year:

• chocolates and confectionery prepared, in case of sudden hunger 👍
• savoury plates ready, laden with crackers and such cheese as dreams are made of 👍

I'm the head magic teacher at a British boarding school.

No matter how much some people in Israel hate the people of Palestine, that hatred cannot justify such mistreatment.

One day I hope to see those responsible on trial.
Liedtke also stated that the rape and torture inflicted upon her was not an isolated crime by Israel, but a systematic war crime perpetrated against Palestinian prisoners and the Palestinian people.

I can usually figure out where I am just from the blurry view through the steamed up bus windows.

Guessing that other people are going to be in one of four categories:
• also able to do this unremarkable thing
• what wizardry is this?
• never travel by bus
• travel by bus, but nowhere rainy
People sitting next to a steamed-up window on the bus should have a legal obligation to wipe said window for the benefit of others. Especially when the bus is moving at a crawling pace and we all have no idea where we are, as spent too long doom-scrolling on phone

Imagine if the tax rate on wealth was calculated by multiplying just two things:

• how much more money you had, above some threshold (example starting point: one million special drawing rights)

• what proportion of people in your country don't have a fixed abode

This is a bizarre message. Anyway, it's great that you can usually get a cable to work with all your old USB chargers that don't have a type C port.
One port, one cable, one Europe.

This holiday, unwrap the power of one: USB-C for all.

Yes, not just phones, tablets, and laptops. In three years, every charger will be under the same tree.

Because less waste, smarter choices, mean more for everyone, all year long.

Full disclosure: my parents were both nurses (briefly, but they were) and I was born in an NHS operated hospital.

Doctors in the UK are saying they are not paid enough.

Here's how the NHS could respond:
• cut nursing shifts to be nominally 8 hours 30 minutes; bring in a workforce plan to hire enough nurses
• a funded programme for nurses to retrain as doctors
• improvement committees picked by sortition

Maybe someone has been really boosting the idea, maybe in the last 10 years ie something, that if you are claiming that something looks like a conspiracy, you're one of those weirdos who sees them everywhere.

Oh darn.
‘You don’t have to be a conspiracy theorist to suggest there’s a White House cover up.’

Simon Marks says it’s ‘a joke’ that Trump hasn’t released the Epstein files in full.

France has a great answer to this. Even on normal, non millionaire health insurance, you can get decent accommodation for nearly all conditions.

A private room is, like, a lot more than the basic €20 day rate (maybe €200) but you can have a partner stay in it unless you need truly specialised care.
My bio mom is in the hospital right now for a COPD flare up and one of my spicy medical takes is that we have a lot research about how sleep deprivation is horrible for health and recovery but somehow this is totally ignored in clinical situations and waking you up every two hours is fine

I notice that the headline doesn't even consider that Israel's credibility could be saved.
If the Gaza peace deal turns out to be a worthless piece of paper, that will bode poorly for the deals Donald Trump is trying to negotiate elsewhere. America’s credibility is on the line
Two months in, the Gaza ceasefire is floundering
The consequences will ripple beyond the Middle East

If people want Israel not to enter Eurovision, they have to get an EU policy to sanction countries committing genocide.

Then the (separate) EBU will have its hand forced.

The choice of where / what to tax is absolutely a political choice.

I personally really like the kind of things Jaime Lerner did in Curitiba, with regulations that gave a big boost to outcomes, and pragmatism over dogma.

eg Start by designing a tax system that works for eg Brazil, then improve it!
This is an absolute non story. What's happening to our supposed impartial broadcasters?

A government makes choices on what the country needs, what needs funding. From this they calculate how much revenue they need to fund this.

Don't you think we need fiscal headroom?

Talk about Ukraine.

Don't tax wealth. Tax spending wealth on harmful things (like buying land, which they basically stopped making a while ago).
Finally, someone mentions ’reform the tax system’

The West has pursued the disastrous policy of taxing workers, especially middle incomers, while cosseting the enormous wealth of the ‘wealth creators’.

& Done largely out of fear they’ll just take their wealth away if we tax it. #r4today
