A #histSTM query: you're able to travel back in time 500 years. What technological object will you take with you to impress people (or get burnt as a witch)? Batteries can go charged but you won't have access to mains 'leccy, internet, satellites etc. I vote: polaroid camera. You?

me, at every small shop where the counter is cluttered with stuff: it would be so helpful if you had free space here
every small shopkeeper: isn't it annoying? nowhere to gift-wrap, people lose their cards, have to load bags on the floor

shop: happy Christmas!

This coming week was booked solid, but in the last two hours every single plan has fallen apart except for drinks on Wednesday.

This is courtesy of covid + immunosuppression, so am feeling equal parts sympathetically sad, and guiltily relieved.

Looking for a tv series of Whodunnits (not written by Agatha Christie, that's covered) where the story is fair so all the clues are available to the audience and the whodunnit is solvable.

Any suggestions welcome. Fairness to the audience with the clues is the most important part to me.

Things I can't taste: saffron, blueberries, chamomile.

Every person on the planet: "You just haven't had REAL saffron/blueberries/chamomile."

Is there certification I can apply for?

It’s miserable out there but my phone reminded me of a sunny Winter’s day 7 years ago today.

Was swimming in the North Sea and found these glowing sea gooseberries washed up.

I spent the morning putting them back in the water.

Don’t know if it helped but I couldn’t just leave them there.

Both are objectively wrong, but which is the worse incorrect window for the Twelve Days of Christmas:
1. Dec 1-12
2. Dec 12-24
(I vote 1)

TIL how to spell 'rhinoceros'. I've been spelling it 'rhinocerous' all this time because of the rhinocerous/preposterous couplet. Now they both look wrong, thanks Redactle.

I'm looking at menus of places for a special dinner, and seeing a whole lot of tallow candles, activated nuts, meat parfaits, and the replacement of 'house-made' with 'bespoke'. Bespoke butter. Sigh.

Is the Foundation tv series good?
(intelligent writing; engaging characters; varied plot threads, plot not overall terribly challenging to follow; good pacing, emotionally varied)
If it helps, I found the books insufferable and boring.

Xibai spent most of #Caturday at the vet having her injured eye inspected. She's happy to be home.
(And the vet ringbarked her, which may foil her plan to evolve into a mountain lion?)

A DVD in the superdrive wouldn't mount or eject. I needed a USB port to connect a mouse for the more annoying solutions, so ejected the external hard drive ... and the DVD ejected as well. What is happening with the ports??

A famous person has died and there's an outpouring of love and grief for them, but I couldn't stand a moment of their professional career and have serious questions about some of their personal choices. Also they had a good innings. Am feeling a great disconnect with the zeitgeist right now.
