Taking aim at the figure of Robin Hood to consider what life was really like during the middle ages, what lessons we can learn from an outlaw hero, and how we reinterpret our legends through the centuries.

This account exists in support of Into the Greenwood. A podcast for exploring what we can learn by examining the legends of Robin Hood.

Followers can expect history, folklore, & nerdery. But also politics, it would be a failure to truly engage w/ our subject if we eschewed socio-political content.
Episode 66 of the Into the Greenwood podcast is out! 📯

This time we depart the forests of medieval England for the streets of modern day Chicago to get a first-hand account of what's been happening during the so-called "Operation Midway Blitz".

I love these connections between St Nicholas / Father Christmas / The Holly King and Robin Hood (like a younger summer version)
Happy #StNicholasDay!
According to legend, St. Nicholas once ran afoul of a group of thieves, but convinced them to return their stolen goods. For that reason he's sometimes considered the patron saint of thieves and thusly often evoked in #RobinHood adaptations. 1/4

The MGM+ Robin Hood show might be the new hotness, but the Into the Greenwood podcast is continuing its celebration of the 70th anniversary of the The Adventures of Robin Hood TV show starring Richard Greene with the review of an episode where Robin meets his match in the form of Alfred Pennyworth!

The point of this article is not about how to catch students who cheat using AI, but about how one is cheating themselves by using AI.

I just finished a re-read of Michael Cadnum's 'In a Dark Wood'.
Although, all in prose, the heavy (and often heavy-handed) use of florid descriptions, metaphor, and symbolism makes this Sheriff of Nottingham-centered adaption of 'Robin Hood and the Potter' feel deeply poetic.

I adore this book!

Can I remotely afford this 90💷 Lego set?
Nope!

Do I want it just for the sake of assembling a mini-figure of Guy of Gisbourne that is accurate to his appearance in the medieval poem?
Yep.

Fans are rightly pointing out that the new Robin Hood TV series is rife with anachronisms.
However, some of the most popular Robin Hood adaptations of all time have PLENTY of anachronisms of their own!

They can be distracting, but they're not what makes or breaks a RH adaptation for me.

Unsurprisingly, I have a LOT of thoughts & will release an episode of the podcast later this week to share them.
