I’ve been in a room with Putin. He calls Ukrainians “Russians with accents.” His real fear isn’t NATO expansion, it’s democracy expansion. It shatters his entire argument for dictatorship at home. Because if Ukrainians embrace freedom, Russians may demand the same.

#Belarus The regime reportedly pardoned 25 people, including political prisoners sentenced for "extremist" crimes. Among them are 12 women & 13 men. One was convicted as a minor.

Just today, we learned that my colleague, journalist Ihar Ilyash was sentenced to 4 years in jail.

1/ Russian soldiers with HIV and hepatatis are pleading to be released from military service and allowed to undergo treatment. Instead, many are being sent back to the front lines without any treatment, and some are being sent into suicidal assaults as an apparent punishment. ⬇️

#Belarus Political prisoner Mikita Zalatarou, who has epilepsy and has repeatedly reported torture in custody, cut his veins in the Orsha colony. He was rushed to hospital and survived, but his condition is alarming. He was 16 when he was arrested in 2020.
