Hmmm okay now I see it that way too (& thank you for the ravishingly lovely image). But “from” suggests that the shimmer issues from Desire itself, not from the interaction between desire and language. No preposition is up to the job! “It is the desire that makes it shimmer that we are censoring?”

I say “with”! Desire is the shimmer in the sentence, not its cause. Immanent, not transcendent.

Tl;dr many ND people develop systems to cope with their challenges, and when the systems work they don't notice the challenges anymore, but maintaining the systems can be exhausting and when they break down the functions they were supporting break down too.
