Must be because of historical context, Austria never having produced anyone harmful

100%, that is not vague at all.

This regional one is new for this year, but I expect it'll be 100% AAA www.gematsu.com/2025/10/play...

Hers what I mean, 24 &25 MCV/develop, 24 Develop Stars, and 24 horror

..so I'd love to see more of that. Big gaps for regional include Canada, South Korea, Japan, Germany, Sweden, Finland. The game audio network guild adding a category this year is cool, although it's paid entry. IGF needs a category, and pocket gamer for mobile.

There are AFAIK three indie-specific categories (GAConf Awards, Debug Awards and The Indie Game Awards), but also something that makes a bit difference is more specific ones - indies do well in national awards (UK's 3, France, Spain, Australia, NZ) and things like the horror game awards too,

TGA does have credibility with lots of people though, esp considering the accessibility category has its own separate expert jury, and absurdly massive viewership too, makes the oscars seem like small fry let alone BAFTA

I think there could be a bit of self fulfilling psychology too. Like voting in elections, people not wanting to feel like they're wasting a vote on a small party they believe in but don't think will win, which itself directly reduces their chances of winning.

What makes you say that?

Another angle though - there were no small indies BUT there were also only three AAAs; Atomfall & SoM were both AAs made with mini teams & mini budgets, and SoM didn't do much a11y marketing. Instead of those, could have been AAAs like COD, Battlefield, Indy, Yotei, Borderlands, F1, Monster Hunter..

Antonio and I decided to run ops for it, contacting a bunch of indie contenders and asking them to submit pitches, so the judges would have heard of them at least.

I thikn there are a couple of others that have their own juries too, like esports
