If you needed a really clear example of the whole “conservatism means there are some the law binds buts does not protect, and some the law protects but does not bind” you’d have a hard time making it more transparent than this.
So in one courtroom the DOJ is arguing that a sandwich thrown into an armor-wearing officer is a forcible assault while simultaneously in another courtroom DOJ says tackling protestors or shooting them in the head with less lethal munitions does not count as use of force. One rule for thee...

I know it’s a cognitive distortion to see an outcome as complex as a national election and think “this proves out my personal narrative,” and more specifically is the distortion centrist concessionistas engage in constantly but this one time it’s actually just true and it turns out I’m right.

This is correct. Any candidate cynically “triangulating” on trans kids is a non-starter, and now is the time to say so. There’s still so much time to advance candidates that DON’T suck.

Institutions that endure necessarily develop traits of self preservation. Power protects itself. The DNC might oppose our turn to authoritarianism, but it’s not a pressing existential threat to the institution like progressives winning primaries is.

I was standing on a street corner in Seattle, waiting to cross. Sean Nelson, lead singer of Harvey Danger and local journalist, jaywalked part way, then got stuck in the median. He looked up at me and made a sort of "well gosh" flummoxed face. The light changed and we crossed the road.
