jeanette can't have seen this life + 10. quite probably my favourite tv drama of all time, but come on, it's the last thing that needs a comeback, it would be truly dreadful.

watching highlights of charlton versus southampton from yesterday brought back memories of this, a game i've never been able to watch back. truly dire.

really good piece in @wsc.co.uk this month about the upturn in fortunes of faroese football - wins against czech republic and montenegro, holding their own against the likes of croatia, georgia and poland, and clubs reaching the late qualifying rounds of the champions league. great story.

117/ ladybird, ladybird

early nineties ken loach film about a young mum's struggles. only ever seen crissy rock older and playing comedic roles, but what a performance. barely believable that it was her acting debut, and largely improvised. loach at his best, and top tier kitchen sink drama. 9/10.

reckon there was probably a thousand fans there for a sunday game between west didsbury and chorlton vets and wythenshawe vets. incredible turnout really. mixed thoughts on the ex-pros playing at this level. ireland, lescott, drinkwater, figueroa, monteiro, boyd, heskey all featured. 1:6 (i think).

ground eight. chadderton 8 city of liverpool 0, nwcfl prem. £7. strange place. surrounded by red brick houses, but a 5g pitch sadly. big modern clubhouse, one hybrid stand. small crowd (c.200) as oldham were playing. very one-sided game. a ground so cold some fans watched from their cars. miserable.

116/ die my love

recent one from the great lynne ramsay. jennifer lawrence as a new mum experiencing post-partum depression and psychosis. pretty raw and manic in parts, quite funny in others, blurs the lines a bit between reality and magical realism. career best performance from lawrence. 8/10.

this is a great deal, tbf. and you don't *have to* read wilson's novel, you can give that to someone you don't like for christmas. still some of the best football writing going...
