“in theater” is a crazy way to describe minneapolis
Q: Can you be specific about how many ICE and CBP agents are currently operating in the state?

HOMAN: 3,000. There's been some rotations. They've been in theater a long time. Day after day, can't eat in restaurants, people spin on you, blowing whistles at you. But my main focus now is draw down

my expectation of democratic senators is that they find 1/10th of the bravery of your average 70 year old lutheran lady following ICE around mpls in her subaru crosstrek

I hope Democratic senators and congressmen understand, out of pure lizard-brain self-interest if moral decency happens to be unavailable, what is at stake for them if they don't handle this the right way. This is a true "If not now, when?" moment.

In functioning democracies, ministers resign all the time, under threat of a no confidence vote in the parliament. We have a system where legislative confirmation totally fails ex ante to screen out wildly unqualified people, & ex post accountability depends on a toothless extraordinary measure.
Impeach Kristi Noem.
As you evaluate this from Kristi Noem, remember that when a federal agent shot a woman in Chicago last year, DHS's initial version of events was full of lies that fell apart under subsequent scrutiny:

The “fun” thing about the kennedy center freakout is that conservatives have been carving out “creative” exceptions to anti discrimination laws so they can be bigots to ordinary people just trying to make a purchase, but if actual artists don’t want to perform for the god king they must be punished

One more Heated Rivalry thought: As a journalist I have participated for literal DECADES in the "Will audiences ever accept a frankly sexual romance between two hot actors?" discussion. It has always been used as an imaginary gay benchmark: "We'll know we've won when the day comes that..." etc. >

This feels, somehow, endstage.

Either his or ours.
Trump: "Trump RX dot gov. Trump RX dot gov. And I didn't name it that. Somebody named it that. And I guess they assumed that was--- did you name it Oz?"

Oz: "We all named it together"

Trump: "Ok. Well, I'm honored to have the name."

Basically Trump is trying to harangue America into believing that everything was horrible a year ago and perfect now, which Americans, capable of observing America, have already made clear they don't find convincing.

It is hard to overstate how critical @ncar-ucar.bsky.social is to climate science in the US and around the world. It's the beating heart of our field. Generations of scientists have trained there, and almost everyone I know relies on deep collaborations with NCAR scientists. It's end is unthinkable.
Exclusive: The Trump administration is moving to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, according to a senior White House official, taking aim at one of the world's leading climate research labs.

One of the great failures of contemporary political news coverage in a lot of media is the unspoken principle that no violation of norms or decency by Trump is really news, worthy of sustained attention, unless it also upsets people who love him. It isn't "not taking the bait"; it's sleepwalking.

i strongly, strongly believe that good writing is downstream of clear thinking and a strong understanding of the subject matter at hand. without fail, tortured writing comes from writers who don’t know and can’t think clearly about anything.
Oh man! This paragraph is brutal. The best thing about this review is it's not trying to be mean. It's just listing how bad the writing is.

I don't wish this job on anyone, but someone should do a history of how Trump's social-media pronouncements get particularly rageful/hateful/insane on holiday weekends. Maybe there's something about being alone while others celebrate, or vague, in-and-out awareness that he's waning and hated, etc.
