Avoid using flashing content. It’s crucial not to use videos that have more than three flashes within a period of 1 second. This could provoke seizures in some users. If you have flashing media, it’s crucial to add a warning to your posts. How to write alt text descriptions: Write short, relevant and concise descriptions. Include any text that is shown within an image, Don’t write phrases such as ‘an image of’, and Check the accuracy of AI-generated alt text. This feature should only be used for describing imagery. Captions make videos accessible for millions of Deaf or hard of hearing followers. They also assist anyone not wearing headphones too!When adding captions to your media, check that they: Are accurate, don’t block visual features, have a high contrast, and are synchronised to speech Transcripts should be included with videos and podcasts. They need to include spoken audio and also descriptions of actions or important on-screen information to give context to visually impaired people.

Alt text - Adding alt text descriptions lets blind and low sighted users know what you are displaying in your imagery. Whether it’s describing a person, sale item, or text in an infographic - people need to be given the same context. Be sure to always check the image descriptions if using AI. Links - When using a link in your post, use a shortened URL. Where possible, place the link at the end of your post. This will prevent screen reader users from being confronted with a large, confusing string of text. Emojis - Every emoji has a description assigned to them, which are aloud by screen readers to blind people. Often, this results in content not making sense. So, don’t use emojis: As bullet points, In between words, or in excess. An example shows an emoji with its face screaming in fear, with the description aside it. Hashtags - Screen readers need to decipher individual words in hashtags. Lowercase or block capital hashtags prevent this. Instead use either #PascalCase or #camelCase, which also aids with readability!
