The world needs a lot of people making smaller/improved choices a lot more than it needs a select few making "perfect" choices, whatever that means

This mindset applies to a lot of other topics, too

If you want to compliment them, get specific. Compliment their emotional intelligence or ability to ask for help when needed or creative problem solving skills.
Encourage specific skills and traits, not the amorphous blob of behaviors and experiences packaged in the vague concept of "maturity".

Please don't call young people "mature for their age" as a compliment. Measuring worth like that creates pressure to pretend you're more developed than you are and opens you up to a higher potential for being groomed, used, traumatized by older adults.
Let them be undercooked.
Let that be okay.
