So I opened up Disney+ to watch some more Malcolm in the Middle... it's genuinely wild to see THIS film of all things promoted on the front page.

Here's Sonic R on the Sega Saturn in the Malcolm in the Middle episode "Dinner Out". Malcolm says he was 4 when this was one of his favourite games, which I don't think works out math-wise with Frankie's age (though given the creator initially thought Malcolm would be about 8 it would've worked out)

Paul Dano didn't give the performance of a lifetime as Pet Sounds-era Brian Wilson in Love and Mercy (2014) for this kind of slander to be made.

Yeah a lot of his negative film opinions seem based more around spite than any real critique.
I will say Tarantino was once better at spotlighting other people's work, like through Rolling Thunder Pictures he helped get more obscure films into the public eye en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling...

The Sims parody from the Malcolm in the Middle episode "Hal Coaches" is honestly a genuinely funny recreation of what the Sims looked like at the time, and what it's actually like to try and make versions of yourself in The Sims.

Meanwhile Oscar Nunez also shows up in two Malcolm episodes in the same location, and it's clear he's meant to be the same character, credited both times as "Ranch Hand".

And here's Leslie David Baker, aka. Stanley from the American version of The Office, showing up in TWO different episodes! No idea if he's meant to be the same character (given he doesn't recognize Hal in his second appearance, I doubt it)

Here's future Oscar winner Octavia Spencer showing up as "Cashier" during a Malcolm in the Middle episode!

Reminded of something I discovered recently by Drew Gooden's new video about how capitalism has gotten so terrible: There is in fact a book arguing that "inequality in america doesn't exist, guys, everything's fine, nothing's wrong, rich people pay their taxes!"
A better title: The Ultimate Cope.

I think part of what makes Bryan Cranston so funny on Malcolm in the Middle is his physical appearance. He looks like someone who could've been the square-jawed father figure on a '50s sitcom like Father Knows Best, which makes the absurd situations he gets into even funnier.

Surprising connection between where I live and one of the most famous science fiction books of all time: The Butlerian Jihad from Dune is named for Samuel Butler and his essay "Darwin Amongst the Machines", which was first published in The Press, the newspaper of my hometown, Christchurch, NZ.

My favourite example of how long he's been around is how you can find his name in early Marvel letter pages. There's something to be said about how, even in the early days when they had a smaller audience than DC, Marvel was cultivating a more vocal and devoted readership.

He also did some episodes of the often-forgotten Twilight Zone reboot from the '80s, and the Linda Hamilton/Ron Perlman Beauty and the Beast show.

Yes! I got that vibe too. He belonged to the era where a film Outland (1981) can be a space-set remake of High Noon (1952).

It being a George RR Martin adaptation is fascinating to me, like he's done other stuff people seemingly forget: Do many people know he co-created an original superhero universe? Or how illustrations for a short story he wrote directly influenced Chewbacca?

Basically, if you looked like one of THESE guys in 2004, you were there opening day to see AVP in theatres lol

Nice to see a Paul WS Anderson recommendation! I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed his film Soldier (1998), basically a sci-fi take on the western classic Shane (1953).

"What are you talking about, TROS went great! I don't see Bob Iger calling JJ literally every day in this photo, do you? This is a totally fair example of how the production went."

There's an entire epilogue to the Shining that made its way to the early prints, but was removed and destroyed because Kubrick was unsatisfied with it. We only know it exists thanks to surviving photos/recollections/surviving script pages.

These just came in the mail today! Huge props to Flicker Alley for releasing such obscure films in such a nice way (with special features!)

There's a Malcolm in the Middle episode where Reese becomes super-christian after looking at a cool painting he sees in a bible class.
In hindsight, it nailed the kind of "tradcath" guy who joins christianity solely for the aesthetics/racism and not actually helping or caring about others.
