When I taught a group how to play Hot Streak at the shop Wednesday night we have a room of people cheering on the racers they had bet on and a very fun atmosphere whilst Magical Athlete became a bit rules lawyer-y at times

Released right at the same time by the same publisher, at a similar price point, and both with a racing theme. You'll think Magical Athlete is the more casual game but powers and rules interactions get quite complex, whereas Hot Streak is just a really fun betting game with lots of visual appeal.

A comic book won't harass you for 10 minutes to buy access to DLC, or flood you with ads that prevent you from enjoying the thing you actually bought. Neither will an older gaming system. This is bigger than a retro trend, it's at least in part a rejection of enshitification. Good.
