When I decided to watch the Castle Rock Entertainment filmography back at the top of 2024 it began as an excuse revisit the films of my favorite director Rob Reiner, but it soon evolved into an exploration of how his creative fingerprints covered the company’s entire approach to filmmaking.
Over the course of the year I’ve been watching all 93 titles in the Castle Rock Entertainment filmography and sharing my thoughts on them in this thread. Follow along as I take a nostalgic trip around the lighthouse.

Delighted to see “slop” as the word of the year AND by the CT callout here:
“Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg: Yes, you read that correctly. ‘The name of this lake delighted and baffled us when it started clogging the Top Lookups list on Merriam-Webster.com,’... But in New England? It's known as Webster Lake.”

#etymology
"Slop" chosen as Merriam-Webster's 2025 word of the year
"Slop," which refers to creepy, zany and demonstrably fake content, has landed the title of Merriam-Webster's 2025 word of the year.

Clear memory with home town friends:

[UGA friend sees us]
“Hey! Where are y’all headed?”

Me: “Nowhere!”

[UGA]
“Ok see you there!”

Me:
“Cool!”

CT friends:
“W-…
what?”

Holy…

This game is DRUNK
So, if we’re keeping score at home:

That was four turnovers in two plays in the Army Navy game before Navy scored a TD to go up 17-16.

Precept German style pilsner
Bissell Brothers Brewery, Portland

European hoppiness with the dial juuust nudged upward.

Rich depth of malt rounds out the crispness and adds a little luxury to the proceedings. A must-have, imo.

We snuck an entire 5th of Wild Turkey into the Blair Witch. People were s c r e a m I n g.
I waked out afterwards and my gf had left fingernail marks in my arm. 10/10 experience.

Jackass Number 2 was the loudest laughter I have ever heard.

I was the only person in the theater for Ford vs Ferrari.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.
