Books. Movies. Books about movies. Movies about anything. He/him. Seem to be drawn mostly to crime (film noir, Krimi, all kinds of capers) and classic comedy. Developing a bit of a James Mason fixation.

HIM is a massive waste of everyone's time. Fucking hell.

Why is it important to include references to slavery on blue plaques, National Trust properties, etc? Because otherwise people are convinced that somehow those lovely houses were gifted to certain British families by the fairies, and don't think about where the money came from.
holy shit: “Among the 2,000 UK adults surveyed, 85% were unaware that Britain forcibly transported more than 3 million Africans to the Caribbean, 89% did not know that Britain enslaved people in the Caribbean for more than 300 years” www.theguardian.com/world/2025/n...

The corollary of confiscating jewellery from asylum seekers is, of course, that any type of benefits claimants are now potentially liable to similar thinking.

Ok, let's 'have the debate':

Me: This Labour govt is a shower of disgusting, depraved, fashy freaks.

Everyone else except fascists: Yes, yes they are.

(The fascists themselves don't get a platform)
Govt minister Alex Norris is asked if the govt will take jewellery from people [fleeing war and persecution]. Norris says the govt won't be taking peoples wedding rings but they will seize assets.

10 years ago today I flew to New York to see Al Pacino in China Doll, David Mamet’s new play. It was nobody’s finest hour, but fulfilled my ambition to see Al in his element in the live theatre. Delighted to see he’s still plugging away at his craft.

I could've sworn that this lot now in charge said they were going to address the main concerns about corrupt privatised utilities, the cost of living crisis and the dearth of affordable housing. I don't remember this sickening demonisation of immigrants and refugees being a thing. Fuck all of them.

I came to this country as a child refugee. No English, no certainty, no idea what my life could become. Britain gave me refuge.

Not on a timer, not with conditions attached, but with a chance to grow roots.
