I just don't get it. If he's wedded to narrow FBs, that's okay. But then how can there be such a disconnect between what he wants to do on the pitch and the recruitment strategy?

But that's what drives me utterly bananas. Aren't we the most obvious 4231 team in the history of 4231? We finally did it against WH and everything looked ... normal.

I honestly detest the phrase "galaxy brain" because the world needs more thoughtfulness, not less. But jfc this is some crazy galaxy-brain shit we're dealing with!!

Same, mate, same. It did my head in. It really did. Still haven't recovered. That's why I went to check the touch maps to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. It was that unbelievable to me.

But playing double 10s asymmetrically squeezes the left 10 (Wirtz) between the right 10 (Dom) & the LW (Gakpo). Obviously, Wirtz's touch map is distorted because he played the second half as the LW, but sweet jesu, you've implemented a system that DENIES space to your playmaker. Make it make sense.

Against WH, Szobo played as a wide right mid--what you might expect in an old-fashioned 442. Against Sunderland, he was the right side of a double 10.

Note how much deeper Gomez was driving against West Ham to become a crossing threat. Against Sunderland he was sitting on the top of the box in the Trend/KDB zone.

We need a deep lying progressive passer on the right side. A double pivot behind Wirtz gives enough protection IMHO.
