Retired maker of maps. Currently local councillor, painter of animals, genealogist, keen walker. Still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up. Pro EU, anti fascist. #annibyniaeth - Independence for Cymru/Wales.
Back from the morning dog walk. It's really wet, muddy & slippery so I found a stout stick to help me keep my balance. Pan the collie had other ideas, snatched it out of my hand & threw it in the hedge, as if saying 'I'm the Branch Manager, I'm the only one allowed to carry sticks.' 🤣

It's been raining for days here - the journey back from Hereford Hospital on Friday reminded me of this scene from 'Spirited Away'. Bloody exhausting driving on flooded roads.

I came across this photo I took about 15 yrs ago when I lived at the top of the hill rather than in the valley. It was such a cold winter! I love this pic, so atmospheric.

I've never sussed out the use of Nordic poles. When I walked Hadrian's Wall with a friend in 2019 she used Nordic poles. She'd be striding up rugged hills & down precipitous peaks without a care in the world whilst I'd be crawling up inclines & descending on my bum. 🤣 Part of our route:

Flying high Kev so I thought you might be able to use some wings 🤣

I'm not a great fan of Reeves but I can't ever remember a Chancellor being given a hard time because things turned out better than expected. Considering the black hole inherited from the Tories, the improvement in the country's fortunes is astonishing. A reminder of Tory corruption from Apr 2024:

On a RIB, Pembrokeshire, looking for seals & dolphins 2019. Here's a little chap who befriended us.

Barry Buzzard earlier, waiting for his breakfast. He was obviously feeling shy as turned away - but look closely & you can see his yellow toes!

A very long way away. Nearer to me is Salisbury Cathedral. If you get the chance to go there, do take the rooftop tour, it's one of the best experiences ever So good I did it once then dragged daughter there - and she was equally impressed. Here's the original medieval windlass below the spire.

This one - as long as you touch the fur rather than the fangs or claws!

I don't think I'd dare to post a pic of the chaos that is our cutlery drawer... Oh dammit, why not 🤣

Meanwhile, at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells the Royal Welsh Winter Fair is in full swing. That's where the farmers will be, many miles from Putin's best friend....

As M was so ill that summer I'd look after her in the morning, get her to eat a bit at lunchtime & put her to bed. Then I'd go in the garden, into the trench, with trowel & brush & camera & sit there for 2 hrs digging. It ended up about 1.5m deep! Photo of 50 yr old crisp packet:

It was fascinating. It retained my sanity during a v worrying time. Here's a pic of my trench: there were lots of pieces of charcoal & lime in the soil & at the bottom it was lined w river stones which had been reddened & cracked by the heat of the firings.

Ah yes, she's got the wolfie collie eyes too! There is something so wild in that look - although when at rest Pan can almost look like a softie.
November 23, 2025 at 10:40 AM
Isn't he just! Pan never really looked cute - even as a puppy he had wolfy eyes. 🤣 Here he is at 13 weeks old.

Another view from the dog-walk: Bannau Brycheiniog/Brecon Beacons. Still chilly but raining so not so icy now.

By the hearth - he likes to keep warm. 🤣

A bit chilly on this afternoon's dog-walk below Y Mynyddoedd Duon/The Black Mountains. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Home now & warming my hands on a nice, steaming mug of tea.

One of my favourites is 'Work' by Ford Madox Brown, which is in Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery. Mind you with all the Pre-Raphaelites in there it's difficult to single out one. What a glorious place that is. If you haven't been, go now, tell them I sent you.. 🤣🙄🥰

The hazards of walking a border collie in Wales: all the sheep gather together & say 'Okay, where are you taking us?'. 🤣

The 'magic lane' this morning - nearly all the leaves have fallen now. And a reminder of how it looked back in August.
