I am watching what is happening in Minneapolis on Ali Velshi and one of the ICE officers (off camera) literally says, “It’s like Call of Duty. Pretty cool huh?” as they shoot whatever it is they are shooting. Agents walking around, guns unholstered for no reason. This is insanity

It's very funny how many people read a Wikipedia (or worse, Google AI) summary about Orientalism by Edward Said and come away thinking he was just some fanatic who loathed all things Western. Said liked all the Western novels, liked all the Wester movies, liked Western dress, liked Western customs.

It's rarely ever said so forthrightly but the main reason people think Said was iconoclastically anti-Western is because he was anti that one particular state that kills his countrymen nonstop.

US 1980s media about Iran is unfortunately relevant because Donald Trump's melting brain is permanently trapped in that decade for his view of the rest of the world

The ERA has ironically become a marker of how far we've backslid on women's rights. It passed Congress nearly 50 years ago, but there's basically no chance it would pass today.
