and even among the tiny circle of nerds who do read and care about the comics, nobody’s thinking about them as art. geek criticism of superhero movies has always just been about comparing plot beats to the source material for “accuracy”

so few people read (american) comics relative to the number of people who watch these slop adaptations that doing the original work a disservice doesn’t even process as a concern to the vast majority of the audience, let alone the people making the calls

most comic readers forget that someone besides the writer is responsible for a lot of the comic, and that goes double for corporate higher-ups making adaptational decisions

alternately i think any mitsuteru yokoyama robot is cool to do design comparisons for

getter 2 specifically i think has a really neat design evolution. obviously the various different getter models are pretty well-known but i feel like 2 doesnt get thought about that much and it’s a very weird looking super robot

it’s funny that a lot of people probably genuinely read her as talking in mommy dom asmr voice and that doesnt really make her less narratively compelling

unironically though i think there are a number of comic characters whose success is dependent on the fact that the reader imagines their voice. i think the garfield cartoon was a mistake for this reason although it is interested to see him depicted as literally telepathic

damn i cant believe i just invented a new reason to complain about cartoons. im a genius

i dont think makima should have a human voice attached to her i think the fact that the reader hears her voice inside their head is fundamental to her vibe
