Short thread highlighting another issue with GenAI pollution in academic resources.
GenAI generates fake citations on the basis of patterns in existing data; hence fake article titles but real authors and journals. Naturally it’s going to replicate existing patterns of publication and citation: older, established, mostly male and anglophone authors, prestige journals. 2/3
