Thanksgiving, a perfectly lovely family holiday that invites us to center gratitude and respect for nature’s bounty...

that is also the centerpiece of an elaborate cultural project of Indigenous erasure that masks the country’s true origins in genocidal conquest. 2/5

But this year we can use the consumer mania to fight fascism by VERY publicly boycotting three big corporations that are enabling the Trump regime's authoritarianism: Home Depot, Amazon & Target. weaintbuyingit.com #WeAintBuyingIt

I usually create a thread of options for people who would like to donate to a Native cause or struggle, but it has gotten HARDER to fundraise on socials over the past couple of years, so I am zeroing in on one ask this year. Pls support Native organizing infrastructure: nativeorganizing.org/donate/

As expected BECCS doesn't fair well:

"...merely the sum of the calculations performed by the IAM machine... So far, BECCS is essentially a psychic exercise in wish fulfillment...the centerpiece for all models for over-shoot-and-return...that has allowed policymakers to postpone emissions cuts." 🔌💡

LONG HEAT spends many pages assessing different removal proposals. Sadly most don't withstand scrutiny.

On afforestation claims the authors highlight their inherent vulnerability to climate breakdown as "like trying to cure Alzheimers...by thinking more often about what happened yesterday." Ouch.

💯 I think "extortion" is the essence of their VC pitch. It's notable that Pasztor the person Stardust paid to legitimize them is the one who uses that term in the article.

From a #climate comms perspective I push "disaster profiteering" as an effective frame for all these techno-fix start ups.

More reasons why OVERSHOOT of 1.5 is a terrible idea:

"[Carbon] removal would set off a process of outgassing, from oceans and forests and other spheres: sinks would somersault into sources...the more that is removed, the more will be outgassed...lending this project, too, a Sisyphean character."

Installing renewables is great but the essential part is ending fossil fuels and that's actually a different thing.

Maximized returns on the venture capital is the objective of this. Not the stated goal. The real business model could indeed be something like extortion on an international scale, couldn’t it.

Yeah, this is it. It's nuts that we use taxpayer money to pay huge profitable corporations to destroy civilisation.

I wish someone would line up A) how much each oil company has gotten in subsidies, and B) how much they have paid out in climate disinfo/denial.
