"This means [...] more military and financial support to Ukraine." 👍🏼

Economically, too: more support to UA has high return. (As in, return on investment = how much you earn if you invest minus how much if you don't invest.)
We still need to get from a situation where Russia pretends to negotiate to a situation where they need to negotiate.

Chancellor Merz: We continue to support Ukraine: We seek a ceasefire as soon as possible, a just and durable peace for Ukraine and security for Europe. Any plan affecting European interests and sovereignty requires Europe’s consent. Europe stands firm and united.

“Weimer speaks of ‘targeted defamation’ by right-wing networks, but that would presuppose that the accusations are false. Yet at their core, they are not.”

Yes - careful with 👏🏻 to statements of the far right. In Weimer's case, no need to resign. Just acknowledge and stop the conflict of interest.

Does job flexibility foster gender equality? On the contrary. Our new paper reveals that the shift to working from home significantly intensifies gender gaps in both paid hours and care-giving among couples.

Merz still stands by his minister ...

What's so hard about realizing what a conflict of interest is, and fixing it?

Very informative thread on climate
It's funny to have to make this case but tbqh we don't make it enough: human efforts to counter fossil fuel use have had *at least some* effect on total greenhouse gas emissions since the signing of the Paris Agreement in 2015, and there's some evidence to back up this position

A lil thread 🧵

Most people hear “heat pump” and think of small air-source units at home. But Germany is building one of the world’s largest heat pumps in Mannheim: a 162 MW river-source system using heat from the Rhine.

Big reminder that heat-pumps scale far beyond households — they can decarbonise whole cities.

„Even if the plan falls apart, this arrogant and confusing ultimatum […] will do permanent damage to America’s reputation as a reliable ally, not only in Europe but around the world.“
This is not a peace plan. It is a proposal that weakens Ukraine and divides America from Europe, preparing the way for a larger war in the future. In the meantime, it benefits unnamed Russian and American investors, at the expense of everyone else.

The minister has now transferred his 50% company share to a trustee.

Good but not good. Does it eliminate the appearance of a conflict of interest?

No. If his political actions influence the company‘s earnings, he will have access to the additional earnings immediately after his public service.
