Hello new followers! I’m Lizzy. My expertise is ore geology and mineral exploration, but I’m interested in all aspects of earth science. I’ve been a field mapper, lab scientist, adjunct faculty, and currently a SAHM because the job market is always up and down 😄

I don’t normally share petitions, but good friends and colleagues are going to lose their jobs as part of the planned cuts to the geology dept at Leicester.

⚒️🧪 Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (among other programs) to be eliminated at University of Nebraska-Lincoln #UNL. A tragedy all around. #Geosciences
They are really planning to go through with these cuts at Nebraska, despite recommendations not to. Unbelievable.

If you want to hire highly qualified, very successful earth and atmospheric sciences faculty in teaching and research, quite a few are probably looking for jobs for next year.

As much as I dislike coal companies, the people who run them, and the devastation their mines have wrought, especially in Appalachia, I have the utmost respect for the people who work underground and hope this story has a good ending. Nobody deserves to die in darkness like that.

I may have missed the aurora last night thanks to clouds, but I did get my MRI results and they were “unremarkable”.

Now I know that when I was working above the arctic circle the aurora would wake me up tinkling (and the wolves would also be howing), but I have the biggest fomo with seeing everyone’s aurora photos tonight 😭

Bessent is someone who thinks he understands mining but really has no clue. Tell someone in mining it should only take 1-2 years and they would laugh in your face

#Copper has been holding on to an 8% lead most of the match. It’s a lot, but #Molybdenite could catch up.

What topics should we cover in the #OreCup victory post?
#OreCup finals are between a pair of bewitching ore minerals that glitter and gleam. But only one can have your vote.

Will it be native copper or molybdenite? You’re running out of time to choose!

I’m waffling on my vote today. I like both. Copper is an important mineral but I also want molydenite to win out of spite because this cup had 4 copper minerals in it. #OreCup

Vote #molybdenite! It’s a pretty blue silver color, it’s found in porphyry deposits (my favorite), it’s fun to say and spell, and there is a famous molybdenum mine in Colorado named Climax with it’s hilariously named “Glory Hole” created by underground block cave mining. (Be careful googling that)
#OreCup R2M2: Silver hexagons for alloys & lubricants, or rainbow patches for copper wires & parts? It’s #Molybdenite vs #Bornite for which ore mineral moves to the final round.
