Mental health nerd. Wild swimmer.
Really recommend (and enjoyed!) this book. Possibly helpful for any leaders who need to gather colleagues to generate ideas, problem solve or otherwise think collectively.

It has a section on creating a sense of ease 💜 so important - false urgency kills thought

Wellbeing absences can demonstrate a shift towards healthier cultures that take a preventative approach.

Who wants a culture where pushing through and burning out is championed?

"Wellbeing days can take a preventative role... staff who are struggling would ideally take time off to stop it getting worse...a preventative approach helps staff manage their wellbeing & ultimately will cost the system & schools a lot less."

Perfectionism is very common among educators.

When we talk about wellbeing habits, we really don’t want it to become another thing to shame yourself with, or an extra ‘to-do’ item.

Give yourself grace, and find your own path. Even if there’s mistakes along the way.

Challenging pupil behaviour is getting worse, teachers warn, with over 80% reporting that it had a negative toll on their mental heath.

The eighth Teacher Wellbeing Index is here.

- pupil and parent behaviour is challenging
- public services are not able to provide enough support
- this affects teacher and staff morale, and ability to switch off at night

We need a retention strategy that takes this picture seriously

Yes, this is it! It’s not an either or. No one does their best work when they are emotionally depleted, and the kids lose out when teachers are burned out.

Great to see this being acknowledged by Govt.

We’ve long seen child poverty and under-funded CYP mental health and social services take a real emotional toll on school staff.

Staff burnout or leave and CYP pay a high price.

This was a tough read today.

I’m a Samaritans listening volunteer. I find it tough to field so many calls from people who’ve fallen through the cracks of public services.

This needs to be a Govt. priority.
