Time for a new introduction. I’m a science fiction author from Bristol in the UK. I’ve written over 20 published books, had my work translated into numerous languages, and won an award or two. I mainly post about books, writing, and my part-time job in a bookshop.

One day, social media will consist entirely of bots spamming other bots with AI-generated content; automated supply chains will rumble on, turning raw materials into products and shipping them around the world; and autonomous drones will fight across endless battles. But all the humans will be gone.

Thank you!
I raved awhile back about the brilliant short story collection Who Will You Save? by @garethlpowell.bsky.social. I just caught up with his Continuance series, and wow—everything I want to say is a spoiler! Inventive, gripping, and full of ideas, these novels are top-shelf #sci-fi.

Y’all: @garethlpowell.bsky.social writes truly awesome stories with characters you can identify with, who have real flaws and hopes. He is also a good person with great thoughts, and honestly the entire time I have followed his social media he has been such an encouragement and a breath of fresh air

A few days ago, the brilliant Bristol author Gareth L. Powell posted this and it really struck me that “Do Good and Work Hard” is a terrific, optimistic motto - and one I think our city should officially adopt!

Right now, I’m feeling deeply jealous of those of you who get to spend Saturday morning luxuriating in bed as I get ready to go and open up the bookshop for the day. These dark mornings are so much harder than the light ones.

If 2025 was a Federation starship, I think we'd have ejected the warp core by now

Space opera is the background radiation of science fiction. It's always there, crackling away.

My reading glasses have suffered a structural failure. As I can neither read or write without them, I’m going to have to venture out to source some emergency replacements.

Potentially exciting news in the offing, but I’m going to have to wait a couple of weeks until I can confirm it 😬

Do you listen to music when you read or write? What's playing on your ultimate book-related jukebox?
